We live in a society where people are pressured to believe that it is normal to hold their tongue. It is frowned upon when an individual speaks up for what they believe is right. We have been taught to be seen and not heard; but that is far from the truth. We live in a time where it is vital that we stop being afraid to Speak Up.
A new social norm of not holding others accountable for their actions has led to the abuse, mistreatment, and violation of other people. We must Speak Up when we are faced with adversaries that continually abuse, mistreat, and violate us. We must Speak Up and hold others accountable when we are wronged. My friend had a situation this week where a coworker tried to intimidate her by saying hurtful words about her. The coworker felt that it was acceptable to be loud and rude in front of others without the consideration of others. My friend decided to Speak Up as this wasn’t the first time that this coworker had mistreated her in this manner. She confronted the lady, and expressed how it made her feel to be spoken to in that manner.
Don’t allow people to coerce you into silence when they are harming you!!! Speak Up and let them or someone else know. You should never render the same attitude to your offender, but it is important to Speak Up when necessary.
