How many times have you been in a conversation with a friend, and while you are talking to her, she answers her phone, and holds a another conversation?
You think to yourself Is It That Important to stop our conversation in mid sentence? Then she has the nerve to say “go ahead I’m listening” when the call has ended!!! Or maybe you have a special night planned with your spouse or child and they call and cancel on you to do something else. You can’t help but wonder Is It That Important that you have to cancel our plans?
Is It That Important that you neglect your obligation or responsibility to do other things? Is It That Important that answering the phone can’t wait until you have finished your conversation first?
When we are not sensitive to the needs of others, it is easy to lose focus of what is important.
We take people for granted at times, and think that it’s okay to make them wait until we finish doing everything else. We need to consider the feelings of others before we just place them on the back burner, while everything else takes precedence over them.
Look at it from a different perspective. How would you feel if you were trying to have a serious conversation with your friend and he stopped and said “hold that thought for a minute”?
It Is Important to give others your undivided attention when they are speaking to you.
I had to learn this lesson the hard way. I remember a friend of mine shared with me that she was offended, because every time we were together, I was on my phone with someone else. She said that I made her feel unappreciated and unimportant.
I always thought that I could multitask, but I learned that it’s rude and disrespectful to not make eye contact when someone is speaking to me. I apologized to my friend and have made every effort to not talk on the phone when we are together. I realized that It Is That Important to THINK of others and how they feel about my actions.
