When tragedy hits in our lives, we are faced with a decision to either give in or give up!!! That decision can be the most difficult task that we ever encounter.

There are changes that must be made in order to move beyond the catastrophe that we are facing. Making an adjustment to life after a tragedy can seem so impossible!!! Whether the adjustment is needed after a death of a loved one, the loss of a job, the separation of a relationship, or the loss of material possessions, feeling lost and overwhelmed is a normal reaction.

There have been situations and experiences in my life that left me feeling hopeless and alone. I have had to ask myself “Am I able pick up the pieces and move forward and do I have the energy to move forward”? There have been days that I literally have had to drag myself out of bed to avoid slipping into a state of depression. This life changing dilemma left me at a crossroad of decisions. Adjusting to life’s problems isn’t always easy, but it is necessary in moving forward. There are Seven Strategies that we can use when handling life’s adjustments.

1. Make adjustments in small increments.

2. Never give up when faced with setbacks.

3. Give yourself permission to refocus and start again.

4. Make a decision that giving up is not an option.

5. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

6. Read a self help book of interest.

7. Celebrate small successes.

There will be challenges that occur in our lives from time to time that will leave us feeling like all hope is lost. However, when faced with these situations, remember that as long as there is breath there is hope. No matter how difficult or traumatic your life becomes, know that there is hope!!! Take some time to deal with the loss, and then make a decision to pick up the pieces and move forward.

The sun will shine again!!!
